Ryan Gosling Revives Dead Man’s Bones With New Song

1 min read

Ryan Gosling is returning to a musical project that has remained quiet for nearly two decades. Dead Man’s Bones, the indie music duo formed by the Hollywood actor and musician Zach Shields, has released a new single titled “Lost in the Night, ” marking its first new music since its self-titled debut album in 2009.

The song was released October 27 through ANTI- Records, just a few days ahead of the holiday, which explains its dark, creepy vibes and late-night focus. The song’s music video, also out on October 27, stars Noah Jupe and Rain Spencer in a black-and-white clip.

Gosling and Shields connected through their love of horror stories, supernatural subject matter, and the mood of old haunted house stories, and they began making music together as Dead Man’s Bones in 2005. This odd musical pairing turned into something unique.

Their 2009 debut album combined gothic folk, vintage rock and roll, doo-wop influences and theatrical storytelling. One of its most memorable features was the contribution of the Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir, whose youthful voices added an unsettling but playful quality to the songs.

Songs like “In the Room Where You Sleep” and “Pa Power” contributed to the persistence of the band’s unique sound. While the group never released another album following their debut, their tunes kept popping up on the internet, in film and TV, and regaining popularity during Halloween.

The single re-centers the project, allowing established fans the opportunity to hear how the musical relationship of Shields and Gosling has evolved since the original was released.

The result is a track that preserves Dead Man’s Bones’ atmospheric characteristics, but with a shift in musical style. Drum-machine drums, post-punk guitar textures, synthesizers, and a larger, more anthemic sound give this single a modern touch.

Based on the band, the song is “dark but positive, about being alive and in love.” The darkness and romance have historically been a good combination for the band’s unusual narrative, which frequently combines unsettling imagery with the familiarities of love.

The Black-and-White Opening Shows Them Starting Off In a Cemetery Then Tracking Them On the City Streets Noah Jupe And Rain Spencer star In this black-and-white opening sequence featuring the young lovers on the go.

The stylistic style aids the mysterious mood of the song and adds a more direct narrative to its romantic subject matter. Instead of simply using supernatural imagery, the darkness of the location creates a narrative that examines the relationship between two individuals pulled together by an uncertain, dreamlike experience.

Jupe, who has appeared in movies such as A Quiet Place, and Spencer, who starred in The Summer I Turned Pretty, contribute an acting perspective to the short film. Their acting ties the song’s sense of feeling to its supernatural universe.
